While Bayfield and Durango baseball had a weekend off for spring break, the Ignacio High School baseball team hit the road for a couple of tough games Saturday.
The Bobcats (0-4) fell 14-4 to Paonia (3-0) in five innings of its first game. IHS then fell 11-1 in five innings at Hotchkiss (3-1).
At Paonia, the Bobcats went down 6-0 after three innings but rallied with four in the fourth. But a five-run bottom of the fourth for Paonia followed by three more in the fifth put the game away.
Ignacio’s Lawrence Toledo was 1-for-3 with a double and two runs batted in. Adam House was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Stephan Gomez and Ian Weinreich had the other two RBIs for IHS. Zeb Etter lead the Eagles at the plate. He was 2-for-4 with a two-run home run. He had four RBIs and scored three times.
David Lozano was the winning pitcher for Paonia. In three innings, he allowed only two hits and struck out two. Six walks helped lead to his four runs earned. Holland Roukema took the loss for Ignacio in 3 1/3 innings. He struck out four, walked six and gave up five hits.
Against Hotchkiss, Ignacio again scored in the fourth inning, this time only one run. A big nine-run bottom of the second sent Hotchkiss to a comfortable win. Jamison Yanish pitched five innings for the Bulldogs. He allowed only one hit and struck out nine without issuing a walk, though he did hit one batter. The one run against him was unearned. Weinreich took the loss for IHS in 1 1/3 innings. He allowed five hits, hit two batters and walked four while he struck out one.
Brian Gonzalez was 2-for-2 with two doubles and four RBIs for Hotchkiss.
IHS will travel to Dove Creek for a league game at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
