Ignacio baseball season ends with loss to Dolores

Seven-run sixth inning powers Bears

The season came to an end for the Ignacio High School baseball team, as the Bobcats fell 9-0 to Dolores in the Class 2A District 3/5 play-in game Thursday in Dolores.

The No. 5 Bobcats trailed 2-0 midway through the sixth inning, but a seven-run outing by the No. 4 Bears (9-11) in the bottom of the frame put the game out of reach for Ignacio (4-17).

The Bobcats had a good chance to break their scoreless drought in the top of the sixth when they loaded the bases with one out. But the Bears turned a double play to get out of the inning.

Kai Roubideaux started on the mound for Ignacio and took the loss. He pitched five innings and gave up five runs – four earned.

Dolores recorded eight hits in the game. Cameron Chavez went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs batted in and one run scored. Niel Farias was 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored, and Dakota Smith was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored.

Tel Hamilton went 1-for-3 with a double, one RBI and one run scored, and David Schmittle was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

Chavez started on the mound for the Bears. He pitched five innings, gave up two hits, one walk and struck out three Bobcats on the way to the win. Justin Purkat pitched two innings in relief and allowed one hit, walked four and struck out four.

Offensive stats for Ignacio were not available.

With the win, Dolores advances to the 2A District 3/5 semifinals and will face No. 1 Hotchkiss (16-2) at 10 a.m. Saturday at Olathe High School.
