Editor's note: This is a copy of a letter sent to the La Plata County commissioners.
The Ignacio Chamber of Commerce is asking that the county try to find another place for saving funds besides closing the Bayfield office of the La Plata County Clerk.
Would Durango residents want to drive 30 minutes, or longer if traffic is bad, to handle their auto titles and tags? No, they would not!
Why should residents on this side of the county be expected to do that? About half of the county's population lives on our side of the county, and we believe we deserve county services as much as city residents do.
We realize the county budget is facing drastic cuts. As local business owners, we sometimes have to make drastic cuts as well, but closing the doors of our location is rarely the answer.
We appreciate your time and listening to our concerns.
Ignacio Chamber of Commerce
