Ignacio football looks to spoil Dolores’ homecoming

Bobcats coach wants to see four-quarter effort
Ignacio’s Dustin Sanchez (24), Natoni Cundiff (72), Marcus Chapman (10) and Igancio’s defense will be tasked with slowing down Dolores’ rushing attack, which ran for 374 yards last week, when the Bobcats head to Dolores for the Bears’ homecoming on Friday night.

Ignacio High School’s football team is looking to play the role of spoiler when the Bobcats head to Dolores for the Bears’ homecoming at 7 p.m. Friday night.

Ignacio (1-4, 0-1 1A Southern Peaks League) comes into the game with a three-game losing streak, while Dolores (3-2, 1-0 SPL) carries a three-game winning streak into homecoming.

The Bobcats have struggled recently late in games with a depleted roster, which could pose problems against the Bears, whose offensive line dominated last week and helped the Bears to 374 yards rushing.

Ignacio’s offensive line has been a different story. After last week’s 28-7 loss to Monte Vista, Bobcats’ head coach Alfonso Garcia said a focus during practice this week would be on the O-line and providing more time for quarterback Trace Lovelace.

If the Bobcats can buy some time for Lovelace, he could have a big day. Dolores head coach Chris Trusler said a focus for his defense will be staying in position and not getting beat by the Bobcats’ speedy receivers.

But providing time for Lovelace could be a big challenge for Ignacio’s offensive line. In their five games this season, the Bears have recorded 52 tackles for loss.
