Ignacio girls rediscover the win column

Bobcats beat Bloomfield at the Lady Bronco Invitational

The Ignacio High School girls basketball team snapped a four-game losing streak Friday, winning 46-27 over Bloomfield at the Lady Bronco Invitational in Kirtland, N.M.

The Bobcats jumped out to a sizeable 44-17 lead after three quarters and held on from there for the 19-point victory.

Ellie Seibel paced the Bobcats’ offensive effort with 15 points while chipping in five rebounds and four steals.

Cloe Seibel had 13 points and four rebounds for IHS (2-6).

“It was our defensive pressure (that gave us the win),” IHS head coach Shane Seibel said. “Our basketball I.Q. is getting better. Our turnovers are getting less.”

The Bobcats will play Farmington in the tournament’s consolation championship game at 2 p.m. Saturday.

“We have been working really hard, now they’re starting to see a little bit of payoff and build a little confidence,” coach Seibel said.

Ignacio improved to 2-6 on the year, with the Bobcats’ other victory coming back Dec. 7 in a 41-23 victory over Montezuma-Cortez in Cortez. Ignacio opened the Lady Bronco Invite on Thursday with a 59-31 loss to Belen.

The Bobcats will finish tournament play Saturday before returning home Jan. 18 to open San Juan League play against Dove Creek.
