Ignacio High School sent three competitors to the Colorado High School Activities Association’s Class 2A State Track and Field Championships.
Ignacio finished with five points and came in 36th place overall out of 43 teams. Cedaredge cruised to the title with 97 points. With just three participants, the overall team title was never a real possibility, but the trio represented the high school well.
Bryan Gram had the top Bobcats finish with Sunday’s fifth-place effort of 51.20 seconds in the 400-meter dash. The senior finished just over a second slower than first-place Wiggins High School’s Shane Finegan (50.17).
Other Bobcats gained valuable experience for years to come.
Ignacio freshman Elco Garcia placed 12th in the 3,200-meter run early Saturday morning. He ran in the very first boys event after the two-day weather delay. His time of 10:38.55 was third among freshman in the race. Soroco’s Ben Kelley won the 3,200 with a time of 9:47.71.
Natoni Cundiff finished 17th in Saturday’s shot put event. Cundiff’s second-attempt throw of 119 feet, 10 inches was his best. Crowley County’s Lane Walter won the 2A shot put with a throw of 154-0.
