Ignacio voters will decide Tuesday if they want to approve marijuana sales within town limits.

If approved by voters, the occupation tax would be a maximum of $10 for each retail transaction for both retail and medical sales, which the town estimates could bring in as much as $300,000 in new revenue this year.

This is the first time legalized marijuana sales have been put in front of town voters, as previous town boards had refused to consider allowing sales in town limits.

There also is an election for the town’s board of trustees, with four candidates running for three seats: incumbents Thomas Atencio and Sharon Craig, along with Jeremy Schulz and Joseph Atencio.

The sole candidate for mayor is Clark Craig.

Craig and the elected trustees are scheduled to be sworn in April 11 at Ignacio Town Hall.

The town of Bayfield canceled municipal elections scheduled for this month after four candidates filed for the four open seats on the board.

They are Alexis Hartz and Eli Luke, incumbent Brenna Morlan, and Tom Au, who previously has served as a trustee. Incumbents David Black, Josh Joswick and Kelly Polites are not running again.

The new Bayfield trustees will be sworn in at the regular board meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Town Hall.
