Ignacio shooter, victim ID’d

Sheriff’s office: 27-year-old dies over dispute
Los Pinos Fire Protection District medics work to help Jake Bramwell after he was shot Tuesday morning at the Sky Ute Fairgrounds RV park in Ignacio. Bramwell was shot several times and died at the scene.

The two people involved in a RV park shooting in Ignacio were identified Wednesday by the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said Jake Bramwell, 27, was shot Tuesday at his residence in the Sky Ute Fairgrounds RV park by Joel Ferguson, 33. Ferguson fled the scene in a pickup and turned the gun on himself when a Bayfield marshal’s deputy caught up with him 11 miles away on County Road 523.

Ferguson died of the self-inflicted gunshot wound after he was taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center.

Both men were La Plata County residents.

Autopsies are being performed Wednesday on the deceased men, said Dan Bender, spokesman for the sheriff’s office.

Bramwell was shot several times, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

The shooting was the “result of a disagreement between the two,” Bender said. “The sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate.”

Investigators interviewed a witness who saw the shots, as well as other RV park residents who heard them, Bender said. The investigators recovered two handguns from Ferguson’s Toyota Tundra pickup, he said.
