Ignacio volleyball gets first league win against Ridgway

Bobcats use dominant serving to close out match

After a tough-opening season match against the Pagosa Springs Pirates, the Ignacio High School volleyball team responded to earn a win Saturday.

The Bobcats would roll past Ridgway for a 3-1 win, 26-24, 25-20, 24-26, 25-11.

Ignacio (1-1, 1-0 San Juan Basin League) won for the first time under new head coach Melanie Seibel.

The Bobcats had match point in the third set at 24-21 but would fall 26-24. Disappointed not to close out the match, Ignacio won the first nine points in the fourth set behind the serve of Alexis Pontine, who had three consecutive aces during that run. She also forced two receiving errors during that stretch. An ace from Trinity Strohl ended the match.

The win against Ridgway (2-1, 2-1 SJBL) came one night after IHS fell 3-0 to Pagosa by set scores of 25-17, 25-18 and 25-14.

Ignacio will host Mancos on Tuesday night in another league match.
