Ignacio volleyball serves up precise win

Precision, not power won the day for Ignacio High School volleyball.

The Bobcats fired 11 aces in a 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-18) win over Ouray on Saturday in Ignacio.

“We really talked about serving placement,” said IHS head coach Thad Cano in a phone interview with The Durango Herald. “We focused on dialing back the power of our serves and worked on serving placement, which worked extremely well. They were serving the zones I was calling.”

IHS (1-2, 1-0 San Juan Basin League) also only committed eight serving errors in the match.

Alex Forsythe led the team with five kills, while Kelly Campbell, Miel Diaz, Ellie Seibel and Chrystianne Valdez all had four.

“That’s amazing,” Cano said. “Even distribution, even kills.”

Shoshone Thompson directed that balanced offense from the setter position.

The Bobcats only had nine hitting errors.

With one SJBL win in the bag, IHS next will travel Thursday to Mancos.
