Two sets in, the Ignacio High School volleyball team settled down.
The Bobcats trailed Ridgway 2-0 before coming back with three set wins in a row to win the match 3-2 (20-25, 21-25, 25-19, 25-12, 15-13) on Saturday in Ridgway.
“Our serving is everything. They surgically served Ridgway, kept them out of system,” IHS head coach Thad Cano said in a phone interview with The Durango Herald. “In the third set right there when we got the free ball over, they passed, set, put it down right there. It was beautiful.”
Miel Diaz led IHS (3-2, 3-0 San Juan Basin League) with 14 kills and six service aces.
Kelly Campbell had seven blocks for the Bobcats.
IHS next will travel to the Simla Tournament next weekend in Simla, where the Bobcats will face Vail Mountain and Rye before being seeded for one more game.
“The team, they gained extreme confidence knowing what they’re capable of,” Cano said.
