An Ignacio woman accused of killing a man and injuring another in a case of reckless driving had warrants issued for her arrest after she failed to appear to a court hearing Tuesday morning.
It is not the first time Virginia Cundiff has skipped court.
Judge Anne Woods said Cundiff, 24, has failed to appear several times. The judge issued $500 bonds in two cases against her. Cundiff’s public defender said she was unable to speak to the whereabouts of her client, and therefore could not represent her on Tuesday.
Woods said if Cundiff posts bail by 2 p.m. Wednesday, she could receive repayment for the bonds.
The public defender requested a recognizance bond, but Woods rejected that request.
“Given Ms. Cundiff’s situation, generally, I don’t find that would be appropriate to release her without some sort of bond, at least until she sees court on these cases,” Woods said.
Cundiff is accused of killing a man and injuring another Feb. 10 after she swerved into a work truck parked on the side of Colorado Highway 172, about 2½ miles south of Elmore’s Corner in La Plata County.
Dominic Sandoval, 22, of Farmington, and George Sedlack, 53, of Colorado Springs, were setting up a work zone at the time of the crash, according to Colorado State Patrol. Sandoval was killed at the scene, and Sedlack was taken to the hospital as well as Cundiff.
An investigation uncovered drug paraphernalia in Cundiff’s white 2015 Subaru WRX.
Cundiff was jailed on March 11 and assigned a $10,000 bail in addition to being barred from driving and consuming drugs or alcohol. She was apparently able to post bail.
