Ignacio’s Ignite Gymnastics brings home state champion

Ignite Gymnastics out of Ignacio competed in the Bronze and Silver state meet at Active Athletics in Littleton last weekend.

Six-year-old Jorden Hewitt was the state champion in the Child A age group floor exercise, scoring 9.2 in the bronze level. She and another girl both received a silver medal for vault with a 9.1.

Hewitt was also seventh on the bars with a score of 9.225, 11th on the beam with a score of 8.55. She placed seventh in all-around scoring at 36.075.

“It was a tough crowd,” coach Liz Herring said. “But the girls did some solid routines and some performed new skills and they did them great! We are very proud of their ability to travel six hours and acclimate so well against teams who get to drive across town to compete. Almost all of our girls placed a personal high score on one event.”

Evelyn Pace, 6, placed 10th on floor (8.55) and 13th on both vault (8.7) and bars (8.8).

In the Child B age group, Emma Westbrook, 7, placed 10th on vault (8.9), 11th on beam (8.825) and 13th on bars (8.85).

In the Silver Meet for the Child A age group, Briar Oelschlaeger, 7, placed fourth on beam (9.125), 15th on vault (8.6) and 13th overall (35.75). Harlynn McCollum, 8, placed ninth on Bars.

In the Junior C age group, Sara Eidem, 9, placed fifth on beam (9.425), 14th on vault (8.6) and 15th on bars (9.1).

In the Junior 2A age group, Amelia Gingerich, 10, placed fifth on vault (9.1) and 13th on beam (8.875).

In the Senior A age group, Karver Brown, 11, was seventh on vault (9.125), 10th on floor (9.1) and 13th on beam (9.05) and 11th overall (36.275).

Ignite Gymnastics believes the sport can be beneficial to all body types and personality types. Ignite has children in its program from Southwest Colorado, as well as from the Aztec area.
