There’s a Republican on your ballot that I, a lifelong Democrat, believe deserves your vote: Wayne Williams for secretary of state.
Even if you are inclined to go with the (blue) wave, take a pause and vote for Wayne Williams. As secretary of state, Wayne has brought a non-partisan approach to state election administration. He has worked closely with all stakeholders, improved relations with county clerks, undertaken initiatives to register the homeless, made it easier for those leaving parole to reregister and vote and has expanded registration processes at state agencies.
Unlike some in his party, Wayne believes in the rule of law. When he responded to a request for voter information from a Trump administration commission, he wasn’t acting rashly or in a partisan manner. He was complying with the law. We should be grateful.
It’s true that Wayne was not a supporter of the 2013 election reform bill. But Wayne deserves our thanks for being a convert. He has implemented the election reform bill wholeheartedly, without resistance, and speaks repeatedly about its success.
Experience matters, particularly in this elected office. Wayne has done an outstanding job, making Colorado a national leader in election security, clean voter rolls, post-election audits and fair elections. No other candidate for the office has ever even run an election, and that’s a huge deficit.
Wayne Williams has earned the right to a second term as secretary of state. So don’t get swept up in the wave on this race.
