IHS, BHS in regional volleyball

While football fans from Manitou Springs will come to Bayfield on Friday and Saturday for state football playoffs, volleyball fans will hit the road to make the trip in reverse.

The BHS volleyball girls, ranked 17th in state 3A regionals, will play the 29th-ranked Brush Beetdiggers at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Manitous Springs. Then they take on the hosting Broncos, ranked eighth, at 1 p.m.

The champions from each of the state's 12 regional tournaments will advance to the state tournament, along with the league champions.

Other Western Slope schools moving into regional action on Saturday include Gunnison, Salida, Alamosa, Olathe, Centauri, Buena Vista and La Junta.

"It will be a busy weekend for the Wolverines," wrote Rob Dean, BHS activities director, in a letter to media and parents.

The Ignacio volleycats, meanwhile, travel to Ridgway to play against the host school and Paonia in 2A regional volleyball action. Game times are at 10 a.m. and noon.

Cedaredge and Dolores are other area schools making the trip to regional tournaments.
