IHS boys 10th, girls 11th at Keller

Fastest to the finish line, highest over an obstacle or farthest in the field for Ignacio at the 2015 Ron Keller Invitational was sophomore Azala Perez.

In addition to placing third in the girls' 100-meter dash in 14.11 seconds, 0.12 ahead of 3A Bayfield senior Morgan Allred (and about as much behind the winner, 2A Dolores senior Olivia Wright), she also ran a leg on the Bobcats' 4x100 relay-joining junior Chrystianne Valdez, sophomore Isis Gonzales and senior Sky Cotton-which placed 11th in 1:00.47.

In fact, IHS placed 11th in the girls' team standings on Tuesday, helped by Cotton flying to fifth in the long jump with a 15'6" leap, bettering Bayfield junior Tori Tate (15'3") and sophomore Emily Bauer (15'0.75").

The 4x200 relay of sophomore Keli Baker, Cotton, Gonzales and sophomore Jaylynn Herrera just missed earning a team point with its ninth-place 2:10.26, but the boys' 4x100 (senior Keith Joosten, senior Blaine Mickey, sophomore Lorenzo Pena and senior Mike Perez) did with a seventh-place 47.93.

The Bobcat boys took 10th in the meet's title chase, with their best individual performance coming from senior Ben Miller's fourth-place high jump of five feet, eight inches. Senior Kyle Bailey followed in fifth, also clearing the height but with more misses. Perez was sixth in the 200 (24.66), Mickey took eighth in the pole vault (9'0") and freshman Natoni Cundiff 11th in the discus (101'1").

Ignacio's ladies and gents will next compete at tomorrow's Pine River Invitational inside Wolverine Country Stadium.
