IHS girls soccer makes strides

The soccer concepts are coming, even if the wins aren’t.

The Ignacio High School girls soccer team lost 5-0 at Ridgway 5-0 on Friday, but IHS head coach Oscar Cosio said the Bobcats are making some strides when it comes to soccer theory.

“Communication is a huge improvement in the last few games, just communicating on the field, playing with their heads up and seeing the fields,” Cosio said.

Ridgway took advantage of its nearly full-FIFA-size field to spread out and get some runs at the goal, Cosio said.

“They play probably the biggest field, I think, any team plays on in our league. ... Our girls were like ‘Whoa, that’s big,’” Cosio said.

Cheyenne Kirk did the same at midfield wing for the Bobcats, getting some “great runs and a couple of shots at goal.”

The IHS girls will return home for their final three games, starting first with Center at 4 p.m. Friday in Ignacio.
