IHS plays on without its head coach

Right about now, the Ignacio Bobcats’ girls soccer team feels somewhat like their head coach.

“It looks like Mike Tyson got ahold of me,” Ignacio High School girls soccer head coach Oscar Cosio said Tuesday night after his Bobcats lost 9-0 to Pagosa Springs. Cosio’s looks, however, had nothing to do with the game.

Cosio wasn’t at the game; he is at home recovering.

Cosio suffered a severe allergic reaction to the pollen being swirled around in the area’s heavy winds, at least that’s the best the doctors can tell him. He first experienced the reaction March 12, then broke out in hives. He made the trip to Pueblo for the Bobcats’ boys basketball team’s run at third place in the state tournament, but he ended up in a Pueblo hospital Saturday.

Cosio returned home to Ignacio on Monday afternoon.

The doctors told him to just let the reaction “run its course.”

Ignacio (0-2) will host Center at 4 p.m. Friday, and Cosio hopes to be there to see his Bobcats run their course.

Cosio didn’t have statistics from Tuesday’s game.
