‘Illogical behaviors’ within GOP

One of my childhood heroes was the character Spock on the TV show “Star Trek.” His focus on science and logic guided me through my engineering career. But this mindset now makes it hard for me to understand the current state of the GOP.

Some examples: Republicans are pro-life in regard to unborn zygotes but are pro-death on guns and starting wars. They are pro-choice regarding vaccines and masks but anti-choice on women’s health. They constantly shout “freedom” yet still support a liar that tried to usurp our democracy. They despise socialists and Democrats, yet love their social security checks and Medicare coverage. And they believe in nonsensical conspiracy theories when truth and science are all around us.

These inconsistent, illogical behaviors make my brain hurt. Even though I have always been an unaffiliated, independent, bipartisan voter, I don’t know if I can ever vote for a Republican candidate again. Or at least until saner, more moderate, reasonable people regain control of the party. Maybe then we can all “live long and prosper.”
