I’m unlikely to vote Republican on issues

In response to Robert Goodrich’s letter (“Please, let’s not vote Democratic, ever,” Oct. 1), let me say I used to be proud to consider myself an independent voter but I have been hard pressed the past two years to say that.

While there may be some improvements in the economy in the past year and a half, it is in part at the cost of increased debt and hardship for many individuals. Let’s not forget that President Obama took office in the midst of a financial crisis and worked hard to pull us out of it. Mr. Trump can’t take all of the credit.

But political opinion aside, I am deeply disturbed by the general lack of compassion by so many Republicans for our fellow man, woman, and child who may be different or think differently from yourself. The lack of moral standards is very disturbing to me.

For these reasons I am unlikely to vote Republican on upcoming issues. If the Republican party takes a moral stand then I will happily reconsider and become an independent again.
