Gable House Bed and Breakfast is bringing this year's Snowdown theme – board games – to life with an immersive murder mystery experience inspired by the popular board game, Clue. Participants will be assigned characters and spend three days competing to solve the “murder” that occurred within the walls of the historic local inn.

The game will transport players back to 1800s Durango, at the inception of the bed-and-breakfast.

The Gable House has a rich history. It was built in 1892 by James and Eliza Schutt, successful local mercantiles, and traded hands several times over the years before being transformed into a hospital in 1913. In 1970, the home was purchased by Heather Bryson, and opened for the first time as a bed-and-breakfast.

“We're doing as much as we can to throw in bits and pieces of what has happened here in the home into the game,” said owner Tracie Trotter.

To register

The Clue murder mystery event is open to 14 people. Seven of those slots are already filled. Individuals interested in registering for the event can contact Tracie Trotter at 247-4982 or gablehousebnb@gmail.com

About a week prior to the event, participants will be assigned characters so they have time to put together a costume.

“They will be classic Clue characters based on Gable House history,” Trotter said. “… There's a lot of serendipity going on with the home, the game and the characters.”

The event will involve lodging and non-lodging participants and will take place over four sessions, where players will solve riddles and interact in character.

As a Victorian bed-and-breakfast, the Gable House is a great place to put on an event like this, Trotter said.

This is the second year Gable House will host an immersive mystery event during Snowdown. “We’re bringing it back because it was so much fun,” Trotter said.

The game will begin the evening of Jan. 24 and will end the morning of Jan. 26, when players will have the opportunity to make their final guesses. The prize for finding the “culprit” has yet to be announced.
