Important information on property taxes

La Plata County property tax notices were printed and mailed last week.

After printing, our software vendor informed all Colorado treasurers that there was a bug in the system that used the old assessment ratio of 7.96 percent when calculating the senior and veteran’s exemption only.

The new ratio for 2017 taxes, payable this year, is 7.2 percent.

For those who have the exemption, the valuation of your actual and assessed value (on the first $100,000) in the upper right corner of your notice is calculated too high.

This bug has been fixed, so if you call our office at (970) 382-6352 we can provide you with the correct figure.

Please note: this bug did not impact the tax dollars due that is printed on your notice.

All of those fields are correct. The total tax due is correct. The senior or veteran’s exemption tax dollar subtraction is correct. The net amount due is correct. Please use this notice for your records on your income taxes, and/or to pay your property taxes.

I apologize for this error. The software vendor fixed it the day after it was discovered, and it is correct in our accounting system now.

Allison Aichele, La Plata County Treasurer
