President Trump declared he is “withdrawing the U.S. from the landmark Paris climate agreement.”
This announcement shouldn’t surprise many and pleases few; 47 percent of those who voted for the president feel “the U.S. should participate in the international agreement to limit global warming.” Twenty five percent don’t know. The remaining 28 percent feel we shouldn’t participate in the agreement.
Rep. Tipton should know that in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District, 68 percent of citizens believe global warming is happening now and 71 percent think CO2 should be regulated as a pollutant.
Despite the dismissive statements of people without expertise in climate science, 97 percent of peer-reviewed climate scientists agree Earth’s climate is changing.
In reaction to the president’s decision, some may feel inclined to give up or run away. An alternative is to take action! History has shown such battles are only truly lost when people surrender.
One option is to take action with the Durango chapter of Citizens’ Climate Lobby. Prominent climate scientist Dr. James Hansen said, “Most impressive is the work of Citizens’ Climate Lobby.”
The organization is nonpartisan, welcoming all who want to take action on climate. Contact admin@ccldurango.org
