A La Plata County Sheriff’s Office deputy warns a bather to stay out of the Animas River on Wednesday afternoon near the Ninth Street bridge. The river has been closed since Aug. 5, after a contracted crew working for the Environmental Protection Agency accidentally unleashed 3 million gallons of contaminated heavy-metal laced runoff from the Gold King Mine above Silverton.
