Mr. Orr (Herald, letters, Dec. 15) might consider doing research on the systematic weakening of our justice system in the last 30 years, or the war against our law enforcement.
Perhaps the moral breakdown for decades of integrity, personal responsibility, truth and common decency.
In the 1950s, America was a peaceful, God fearing, strong country. God, flag and family. Morals were taught. Truth was taught. Children were taught integrity, honesty, the importance of family. Bad behavior was punished.
Many kids took their rifles to schools that offered shooting programs. Taught safety and personal skills. The key word? Respect. Mass shootings in the 1950s were nonexistent.
Fast forward to today. Do what you please, respect is dead, God doesn’t exist. Morals are what ever blows your dress up.
Fact, guns are incapable of independent action. “Gun violence” is a media buzz slogan. It takes a human being with a vile and vicious heart to make a gun shoot. It can’t load itself or pull its trigger, it can’t pick a target. It is an inanimate object. Does “knife violence” exist? Really?
It takes an evil person who has no respect for decency or human life.
Decent, law-abiding citizens don’t commit mass murder. Criminals do. There’s no longer an incentive to stop them.
