There is something happening in this area which, as a lifetime resident, concerns me: the shrinking and graying of the service organizations and churches that have been a vital part of this valley for more than 100 years.
I realize that with all the sports and other activities in the schools, parents are hard put to find time and/or money for anything else. And absolutely, schools will always need parent involvement. However, if your kids are no longer as time consuming and you could turn off the TV occasionally and stick your smart phone under a pillow, maybe you could find the time and energy to get involved.
These organizations need to promote themselves visually and otherwise in order to let people know who they are and what good they actually do! We need to preserve our identity as a community, not just be a bunch of people!
