As we know, local Durango 9-R School District has repeatedly boasted and stood strong for an all-inclusive environment, welcoming of all students and staff.
But, are they really all-inclusive?
On Tuesday, Jan. 15, Durango hosted a duel wrestling tournament. Wonderful! Except for one thing: all female wrestlers were barred from participating in this duel (being notified the day before).
Female wrestlers from Durango, Bayfield and Ignacio were all denied the right to compete against each other at this duel meet. How can a school district possibly claim “all-inclusivity” when they have banned female athletes from competing, which clearly violates Title IX rules and regulations?
These girls work hard and deserved the opportunity!
Durango 9-R appear to only be “inclusive” when it comes to political and local recognition. If you have a female wrestler who was denied the right to compete, I highly suggest writing a formal complaint against the school district.
Wrestling coaches were told Durango didn’t want to host the girls, not being given any sort of reasoning as to why – this is sexist beyond measure and it’s wrong. Let the girls compete!
