Is ‘green’ LPEA board qualified?

The Herald’s June 20 editorial on “green” LPEA and the board facing new challenges was an excellent, thought-provoking piece that raises some questions. As the editorial points out, power generation is a technical, capital-intensive and complex business. It might not be essential for a board member to have a degree in electrical engineering (Although it would be extremely helpful), but do the green board members have a degree in any type of engineering or technical study? Or are their backgrounds in history, social science or general studies? If they are not qualified technically, what plans do they have to educate themselves? Do the members have the technical and business acumen to evaluate multimillion dollar, complicated investment alternatives? Or do they even care as long as the investments are “green” related, putting aside the interests of their customers?

In my opinion, the public and customers of LPEA deserve to know the qualifications and objectives of its “green” board members and whether they intend to continue to run an efficient business in the best interest of the electrical consumers.
