Over 130 local newspapers went out of business last year, and currently an estimated two newspapers go out of print every week. We mutter and gripe about our Durango Herald, myself included, but I would sorely miss our local news in print.
We recently received a “pink slip” – actually an orange flyer – in our Wednesday paper announcing that there would be no more home delivery of the Herald. Rather, it would be delivered to subscribers via the USPS.
Is this a hint of end-stage demise of our printed paper? Surely I hope not. How can we all help our local newspaper continue? Or is this just my conspiratorial mind at work?
