Before the Singlespeed Cyclocross World Championships took place Saturday at Durango Mesa, local riders competed in the third stop of the Zia Taqueria Four Corners Cyclocross series on roughly the same course.
After Ivan Sippy won in Dolores and Cody Cupp took the title in Cortez, Rotem Ishay became the third different man to win a men’s open race this season. Ishay finished first, followed by George Pip, Ian Williams, Sam Morrison and Alex Green in fifth.
Michaela Thompson won the women’s open race for her second title in a row. Sabrina Hayes was her closest competitor while Ivy Pederson crossed third, Bailey Cioppa finished fourth, Samantha Fanion took fifth, and Martha Iverson came in sixth.
Ryan Tenge took the B-men’s title, finishing ahead of Troy Hachmann and Steve Koller. Tenge and Hachmann also finished first and second in Cortez.
Cooper Wells, meanwhile, won the junior title for the second week in a row, finishing ahead of runner-up Ian Barton and third-place Fielder LeCompte.
Nick Gould placed first out of seven men in the 35+ race. Last week’s winner, Gaige Sippy, finished fifth at Durango Mesa’s course.
Joseph Shults bested a field of 10 for the 50+ title. In Cortez, 12 riders competed in the category, and Ron Haggart came out on top.
The series will conclude Saturday at Fort Lewis College’s Ray Dennison field.
