I grew up in Union County, and the media coverage there always came from Texas and the Amarillo area. While I’m not criticizing Texas news, I would rather have listened to the news from the state in which my tax dollars are spent! I have brought the situation up in the past to local media here in Albuquerque, which is where I live and work currently. Sadly, it was met with deaf ears. It certainly never became a headline or even back-page interesting.
At least some of the economic loss to New Mexico broadcasters might be offset with TV coverage for New Mexico counties coming from New Mexico.
I’m sure plenty of vehicles purchased, general shopping trips, etc., would be missed by Texas along with the taxes gained. I just feel people should have better access to media from the very state in which they live and pay taxes. The media outlets, politicians and citizens have a responsibility!
