I just wanted to share a few thoughts about something I think that people do not realize is in poor taste. I’ll start by stating that restaurants make money by selling food – plain and simple. Therefore, it is not OK to bring your own food. Many diners do not realize that bringing their own dessert to a restaurant (to be served on the restaurants’ plates, by the restaurants’ staff) equates to bringing in their own food. Please keep in mind that many local dining establishments will happily fill a request for an entire cake with advance notice, and most have birthday candles on hand to be placed into a delicious dessert from their menu for your guest of honor to make a wish. If, though, you truly enjoy baking and decorating the special-occasion desserts yourself (which I can relate to), I ask you to simply consider arranging for coffee and dessert in the comfort of your own home after dinner. I enjoy providing tasty treats for all of the fabulous foodies wandering the streets of Durango, but when you bring your own food into the restaurant, it makes my job null and void.
