Items stolen from unlocked cars in Durango

Spate of break-ins occurred Friday night, early Saturday morning

Items were stolen from several unlocked cars in Durango late Friday night or early Sunday morning.

Most thefts occurred in the Crestview neighborhood, said Sgt. Nick Stasi with the Durango Police Department.

However, Stasi said several musical instruments and equipment were stolen at East Fifth Avenue and east Third Street.

Stasi said he wanted to remind residents to always lock their car doors to minimize thefts.

Stasi said it is difficult to recover items such as the lost musical instruments and musical equipment without serial numbers. Everyone, he said, should keep a list with the serial numbers of all valuable items.

“If we have the serial number, we can input them into a statewide and nationwide database, and we have a better chance of returning them to their owners,” he said.
