Were I given time on the floor of our Senate chamber, I would admonish “my colleagues on the other side of the aisle.”
So this is what it has come to. The Republican majority has lost its nerve; lost its authority to do the right thing.
In either of two impeachment trials, you had the chance to end Trump's belief in The Divine Right of Kings. Instead of casting out the Enemy Within, you chose instead to shamefully grovel, to genuflect – likely fearing his MAGA brown shirts waiting in the tall grass for orders to terrorize you and your families.
You have ceded your power to a thug, a sociopath-turned-psychopath focused on revenge rather than governing.
Described in Dr. Bandy Lee's 2017 tome, “The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump,” 27 of the nation's top psychiatrists and psychologists collectively described Trump's malignant narcissism, a condition devoid of any empathy or compassion, as the basis of his sociopathy.
Now Trump's instincts for revenge could include any of you across the aisle. Little wonder you refuse to utter one syllable of discontent, any note rejecting his fiery platitudes of praise for fellow despots while insulting our longtime allies.
And more recently, you have decided on deflection and silence while Trump tells America and our allies that it was Ukraine, not Putin's invasion, that started that war resulting in the mass destruction and murderous loss of innocent life. You have allowed Trump to reverse course on who are our friends and enemies.
Have you no shame? Or, backbone?
