The wreaths are hung, the tree is lit, and the lights are up in downtown and in the North Main District. The holidays are here! The Durango Business Improvement District asks you to visit our local shops, restaurants and events this season.
The 11th annual Be Local Coupon Book release party is from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Derailed Pour House. The Be Local Coupon Book contains more than 100 pages of discounts and deals from local businesses. Be sure to pick one up to start planning your holiday shopping and nights out with family and friends. The release party is a ticketed event, with tickets sold for only $10 at the door.
The biggest shopping night of the year is Noel Night, which is on Friday, Dec. 7. Noel Night is actually an all-day event, where our independent local businesses reward locals with deals, discounts and fun activities. Watch the Durango Herald for the Noel Night insert, which will include details from all participating businesses.

Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad offers this unique experience, where you get to cut down your own tree in the San Juan National Forest. This special train runs Dec. 1, 2, 8 and 9. Get tickets at DurangoTrain.com.
Speaking of the train, Community Connections holds its annual festival of trees at the depot on Dec. 7 and 8. Dozens of Christmas trees are on display. Vote for your favorite and you just might win it!
The Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College has a wealth of Christmas shows. Durango Choral Society, Bar D Wranglers, State Street Ballet’s performance of “The Nutcracker” and Cherry Poppin’ Daddies all have Christmas shows in December.
Need a break from the holidays? Check out a show at the Animas City Theatre, which has six concerts in December. This includes a special New Year’s Eve show featuring local favorites Elder Grown.
Saturday, Dec. 8, has lots going on, with the annual Breakfast with Santa event at McDonald’s occurring that morning, and the Durango Holiday Farmers Market at the fairgrounds as well.
Pick up one of BID’s Wondrous Winter flyers around town, which features all these events and more through the end of February.
