It’s time to connect on Animas River Trail

In these days of political discord and a government shutdown, here comes Durango Connect to save the day.

The concept: Thousands of community-minded residents joining hands on the Animas River Trail to create a miles-long chain. The second coming of Durango Connect is at 10 a.m. today, and if you want to join in, here’s what to do.

Show up along the river trail a little before the event and look for people to link with. Here are a few tips from the city of Durango and Durango School District 9-R.

Walk or bike to the trail if possible, but don’t ride on the trail during the event. If you drive to the trail, try making it to Santa Rita Park or south.

Leave dogs at home.

Durango Connect will be broadcast live from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on 99.7-FM (KPTE), 101.3-FM (KIQX) and 100.5-FM (KRSJ).

The official signal to link will be a helicopter flyover at 10 a.m.
