Mr. President, we the people here don’t want a war! When has any good whatsoever come from U.S. military involvement in the Middle East?
U.S. involvement in the Bekaa Valley led directly to the bombing of the Marine Corps barracks. President Ronald Reagan, using the USS Missouri to shell Beirut hi-rise apartments, inspired Bin Ladin’s Sept. 11 attack. George W. Bush invaded Iraq on lies about weapons of mass destruction, leaving behind a power vacuum filled by Iran.
President Trump spends $94 million on Tomahawk missiles to destroy an airfield, but only after warning the Russians, who undoubtedly told the Syrians, who evacuated the airfield and had it back in operation within 12 hours. Both the U.S. and the Russians/Bashar al-Assad claim to be fighting ISIS rebels. Obviously, both can’t be telling the truth.
Trump says he cares about the “beautiful babies” cruelly murdered by a “barbaric” gas attack, while denying Syrian refugees entry into the U.S., perhaps some of the very same children! Trump refuses to take Assad head-on because of his buddy-buddy relationship with the Russians. So what was that attack other than a $94 million fireworks show that accomplished nothing?
The simple fact is the U.S. needs to get out of the Middle East permanently and allow these warring people to resolve their own conflicts. What possible benefit can come from greater involvement in Syria’s civil war, or sending additional U.S. boots to Yemen?
It’s time we quit kicking that hornet’s nest!
