It’s time to vote for a change and Martin

I am writing regarding Tim Gallagher’s letter to the editor about the La Plata Electric Association election in District 2 (Herald, April 15). I’m certain that Davin Montoya is a fine, upstanding person, but after 27 years on the LPEA board, it is time for a change.

Members should be aware when they cast their votes that during Montoya’s tenure, two subsidiaries, REAnet and WESODI, went broke to the tune of millions of dollars. LPEA members are still paying for this today.

I understand that the worst part is that the board of directors, including Montoya as president, held many discussions about this situation in executive session, thereby keeping the bad news from the members. The true situation was not revealed until a new slate of directors was elected in 2014.

Kim Martin will act in the best interests of the members at all times. She supports generating more local renewable energy, thereby creating jobs and keeping our money in our local economy. The price of renewable energy is very competitive with the coal that is currently used to generate our electricity, which will also help us keep rates low for years to come.

I urge you to look into the two candidates and cast your vote for Kim Martin. Please vote.
