J. Paul Brown best represents Colorado

Colorado’s House District 59 election between J. Paul Brown and Barbara McLachlan offers a clear choice. The differences between Mr. Brown and Ms. McLachlan are stark.

After carefully studying the positions of both candidates, I’m convinced Mr. Brown brings to the table a lifetime of strong, real-world experience with issues that matter to Western Slope Coloradans, rather than the failed pie-in-the-sky academic philosophies espoused by his opponent.

As a lifelong rancher, Brown knows what it means to work the land, run a business, face stifling government regulations and manage water allocation issues. Further, Brown served on the Ignacio School Board and had four sons in public school. He understands the issues facing educators, as well as the need to keep educational decisions local to best serve the needs of families and give parents a voice in their children’s education.

Equally important, Brown understands that the right of a free people to keep and bear arms is non-negotiable and the law of the land; he will always stand with the Second Amendment.

Ms. McLachlan has a commendable resume as an educator and journalist, but a life spent in academia is no substitute for the down-in-the-dirt life experience with the real issues and struggles of those who live in rural Colorado. Brown lives the values that built western Colorado, and has the practical experience to defend them.

Western Colorado holds a special place in the hearts and souls of those who live here. We are weary of seeing our time-honored values such as hard work, personal responsibility, education rather than propaganda, freedom, patriotism, responsible land management and recreational land use being attacked on all sides by big-government, academic types.

For me, the candidate of choice to fight for the Colorado I love is clear: J. Paul Brown for House District 59.
