J. Paul Brown is too extreme on issues

After attending several candidate forums, it is quite clear that Barbara McLachlan’s positions and views represent the majority of La Plata County voters. While I appreciate the fact that Brown’s conduct was respectful to his opponent, his positions are too extreme and do not support La Plata families. Brown’s continued support for Donald Trump is alarmingly lacking in judgment and is dangerous for women. How can a “family values” candidate support a sexual predator?

Here are some examples of Brown’s extreme views and votes while in office:

Voted against banning gay conversion or “reparative therapy” for minors in Colorado.Denies climate change and doesn’t believe human activity is contributing.Voted against criminal background checks for child care workers.Voted against modernizing Colorado’s Child Welfare data systems to better protect at-risk kids by calculating risk for abuse and neglect.Voted “yes” to stack the deck in favor of the gas industry on the Oil & Gas Conservation Commission, whose job is to make determinations about fracking management in all Colorado counties.Unequivocally states that he is completely against Planned Parenthood.Voted against funding (and terminated) the very successful Colorado program that helped reduce teen pregnancies by 40 percent. This program gained national recognition and has been cited as a successful model for other states to follow.Voted against helping lower- and middle-class families save for their children’s college education by creating “college savings accounts” that would receive adjusted tax deductionsMcLachlan does not support any of these votes and positions by Brown. She knows we need to help families keep their children safe, provide help with educational opportunities and continue to support Planned Parenthood. She also knows how important it is to protect our environment and public lands that provide jobs for so many and is a defining part of Colorado’s heritage for all to enjoy. Vote for McLachlan. She understands and supports what La Plata County residents want and need
