Presidential candidate Jeb Bush recently recommended the U.S. only take in Syrian refugees who are Christian. This raises some interesting questions.
Would it be enough to just say you were Christian or would you need to prove you regularly attended church? What if you supported what you believe to be the basic tenets of the Christian faith – provide for the poor and needy, love your neighbor – but were not always 100 percent certain that Jesus was divine? Would 90 percent certain be enough?
What if you considered yourself Christian but were a chronic sinner – adulterer, liar, thief, etc.? Presumably, you’d get the nod over even the most honest and upstanding Muslim.
What if you were an agnostic or atheist who was willing to become a Christian if you could just get to a safe place? What if you were a child who didn’t understand anything about differences in faith and all you saw were scared people?
