Jena Griswold for secretary of state

Do you know what Colorado’s secretary of state actually does?

I didn’t either. But I looked into it a little, and there are at least two reasons why we should care about who holds this office.

Protection of voter privacy: In 2017, a federal commission demanded the states provide it detailed voter data from the 2016 election. Forty-seven states refused. But Colorado’s secretary of state, Wayne Williams, happily surrendered our supposedly private voting records.

Encouraging eligible citizens to vote: Williams falsely claimed in September that he personally instituted voting by mail, when all he was doing was implementing a new state law. Williams also takes credit for the voter registration renewal program for people receiving or renewing driver’s licenses. However, only 18,872 DMV address changes out of 52,775 were updated in voter lists in 2016.

Coloradans need a secretary of state who will make sure that eligible citizens can vote, that voter privacy is protected and all elections are fair. Wayne Williams has failed to do all of these things.

Jena Griswold is a far better choice for secretary of state. She was a voter rights attorney for the 2012 Obama campaign, ensuring that all voters’ voices were heard. She then served as director of the Colorado governor’s Washington, D.C., office, where she secured federal disaster recovery funding in the wake of the devastating 2013 floods.

Please support Jena Griswold for secretary of state.
