Garncarz is a senior director and interim deputy vice president for conservation at The Wilderness Society, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a future where people and wild nature flourish together, meeting the challenges of a rapidly changing planet. A musician who enjoys playing guitar with friends, Garncarz has a strong love for music and credits his parents for introducing him to the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson. He and his wife have a 10-year-old son who is a student at Stillwater.
