Joel Zucker Memorial Scholarship announces recipients

The Joel Zucker Memorial Scholarship has announced eight recipients.

The Joel Zucker Memorial Scholarship of the Hardrock Hundred Endurance Run announces that $30,000 will be awarded to eight students this year – the largest amount ever in a single year.

Jacee Lawrence from Lake City will receive $5,000 to attend Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction. She is a state running champion, regional history champion, leadership institute graduate and plans to pursue a medical degree in forensics.

Those receiving Continuing Education funds include: Marley Roberts at Northern Arizona University; Megan Levine and Derrick Zanoni at Adams State University; Miranda Hall at Cornell College; Hannah deKay at Regis University; and Talitha Coombs at Colorado Christian University.

Over the past 20 years 87 scholarships totaling $143,050 have been awarded. Money is raised every year from runners and volunteers of the Hardrock Hundred Endurance Run. High school students from Silverton are the primary recipients but students from the communities that support the run also qualify if they have volunteered with the event.

Contributions can be sent to Community Foundation Serving Southwest Colorado, PO Box 1673, Durango, CO 81302, or by PayPal at www.SWCommunityFoundation.org. Make checks payable to Community Foundation and write “Joel Zucker Scholarship” in the memo line.
