Jordan rides into first

Durango native and professional cyclist Emily Jordan took first place in the 45th annual Deer Trail Road Race at the Colorado Senior Road Race Championships in the Women’s 3 category.

Jordan–who rides for Thump Cycling p/b Denver Fit Loft–won with a time of 2 hours, 4 minutes, 7 seconds.

“It was a very exciting weekend,” said Jordan. “The beginning of the season has shown me that there’s potential and I see where I can go in this sport.”

The 42-mile race had punchy climbs with short descents. With six miles left in the race, Jordan attacked off her teammates and held the gap for the remaining distance.

Jordan took second in the City Park Criterium on Saturday with a time of 48:51.708. Thump Cycling teammate Ashley Zoerner took first with a time of 48:43.926.

“The riders were aggressive,” said Jordan. “We had 10 Thump cyclists in field of 17. We really controlled the dynamics of the races. I was hoping that I’d have legs left for (Sunday) and it turns out I did.”

Both races were held in Denver and were put on by Thump Cycling p/b Denver Fit Loft.

“It was a long day at the park,” said Jordan. “It was awesome to get to race our own race.”

Up next for Jordan is the Guanella Pass Hill Climb in Georgetown on Saturday then the Colorado State Criterium Championships in Wheat Ridge on Sunday.
