The 6th Judicial District Nominating Commission has selected six finalists for vacant judge seats in La Plata and San Juan counties, according to news releases from the Colorado Judicial Branch.

The nominees for La Plata County are Laura Freeman of Montrose, Shane Goranson of Durango and Kelly Tompkins of Silverton. The vacancy was created with the appointment of Reid Stewart to the 6th Judicial District Court’s bench, the release said.

As for San Juan County, Katie Dittelberger of Durango, Miles Dudley of Bayfield and Douglas Reynolds of Durango were selected as finalists, the release said. Anthony Edwards’ appointment to the Archuleta County Court bench opened up the seat.

According to the releases, Gov. Jared Polis has until Dec. 17 to appoint the positions.

County court judges are appointed to one county and handle civil actions amounting to less than $25,000, as well as minor criminal matters and traffic cases, said judicial district spokeswoman Amy Woodward. They also occasionally handle probate and juvenile cases.
