The Juniper School will begin a community discussion to plan for its permanent facility and kick off its enrollment application window at a meeting Monday at the school, 215 E. 12th St.
Head of School Katie McCullough said parents of students, prospective students and any interested community members are invited to discuss ideas for a new school.
The Juniper School is a free charter school for students in kindergarten to fifth grade.
The meeting will begin with a tour through classrooms and a welcome by McCullough and Heather Houk, president of the school’s board of directors. Then a facilities roundtable will be held to discuss ideas for a permanent school.
“We are a grass-roots school, and we want to go back to the community for their ideas for a new school,” McCullough said.
Discussion about the new school will look at Juniper’s current short- and long-term plans, funding sources, fundraising plans and the development of a timeline to move.
McCullough said students have been building models of schools from Lego blocks, Popsicle sticks and clay, and the models will be on display.
The meeting will also begin Juniper’s four-week enrollment application window. Enrollment will be finalized at 2 p.m. March 11 with a lottery at the school. Lottery results will be announced to applicants March 13.
