Jerry McBride/Durango Herald <br>Steven L. Barkley, code enforcement officer for the city of Durango, finds himself a little closer to a black bear than he expected as the bear came running around the corner of the Durango 9-R School District Administration Building on Thursday afternoon. The bear had been up a small tree on east Second Avenue and 12th Street. City officials cordoned off the area of the block with Durango Police Department officers providing safety for humans and the bear also keeping look loo’s away and allowing the confused bear to come down the tree only to head through a county parking lot to the alley between the East Second Avenue and Main Avenue. The bear finally made its way over to Buckley Park where it could not make up its mind to go, pondering the many trees around. After running in front of the admin building and realizing no place to go in that direction it turned back around and again looking up at different trees before makings its way to the north end of the park and with a little coxing by Durango Police and city personnel the bear climbed a spruce tree taking refuge in the shade.
