Karen Box, 54, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2014 in Durango.
Karen was born Aug. 2, 1960 in Durango, the daughter of Fritz and Pearl Box. She grew up in Bayfield and attended schools there.
Karen very much enjoyed going to the casino, playing bingo and the slot machines. Her friends and family were very important to her and the casino gave her a place to stay in touch and socialize as well as game.
She is survived by her life-long partner, Anthony Herrera of Ignacio; daughter Mollie Casey of Towaoc; sisters Shirley Esparza of Ignacio, June Box-Tibbetts of Portland, Ore., and Ernie Watts and Joyce Frost, both of Ignacio; her loving pets, Moose and Sallyanne, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Orian Box, Greg Box, Clyde Box, Lena Box, and Alvina Spencer.
A funeral service was held 10 a.m. at Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014 at at the Southern Ute Multi-purpose Room in Ignacio. Hanley Frost officiated. Burial followed at Ouray Memorial Cemetery.
