Karen Sheek elected president of state league

Karen Sheek has been elected president of the Colorado State League of Women Voters. A longtime resident of Cortez, Sheek is a retired teacher/media specialist who taught at the Cortez Middle School for more than 30 years.

For almost 20 years, she and her business partner operated Seas’nings Catering, providing off-site catering services. Chosen to fill a vacated council seat in 2011, Sheek served on Cortez City Council for eight and a half years, six of those years as mayor of Cortez.

Sheek has been a member of the League of Women Voters of Montezuma County for more than five years, serving on the leadership team for three years. The election took place during a Zoom webinar of the League of Women Voters of Colorado Council 2020 on May 30. The meet had originally been scheduled to take place in Grand Junction, but was forced into a webinar format because of the pandemic.
